Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small town located on the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large area that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is commonly known as the place where she was born. It is true that she resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. In her early years she hoped to become professional performer, however an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." When I reached the height of my male counterparts, I stopped. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. A teacher suggested that she audition for an annual school play. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual show. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. The most notable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian actor.
